Leweston Student Represents England in the ISFA Football Games

Posted: 9th May 2023

A massive congratulations to Leweston student, Jonas, Year 9, who represented England in the Independent Schools Football Association (ISFA) U14 games against Welsh Schools FA this Sunday.

Jonas was in the starting line-up as striker and demonstrated his outstanding pace on and off the ball, moving onto the left wing for the second half. The game finished at 2-2 progressing to penalties. Jonas approached the penalty spot cool and relaxed, resulting in a fabulous goal in the bottom right corner. Sadly, this wasn’t enough to claim victory.

Leweston is extremely proud of Jonas for representing the ISFA at international level. He has worked hard to get to this position, with his first trial in November 2021. Over 800 boys attended and only 32 were taken to the next stage. In February 2022 Jonas scored four goals in a selection match that saw him gain a place in the ISFA Southwest team as the striker. In April 2022 the Southwest team went to Shrewsbury to play the other six England regional teams. Jonas scored all of the Southwest goals. From this, only 50 boys were chosen to go forward to the next trial stage which was three days at Harrow School. In December 2022 trials took place In London against the Bromley Academy and then against the Chelsea Academy. Jonas shone again throughout, scoring two goals. Finally in Easter of 2023 the selected 32 boys played Leicester FC Academy at the Leicester City training ground, 18 boys were chosen to represent the ISFA national team and form the final squad.

Jonas was the only boy from the Southwest region to make it all the way through to the international squad. An amazing achievement to be selected out of more than 3000 boys across the 7 regions.

Jonas will now go forward to play for ISFA U15s at national level in the 2023-2024 season.
