Huish writers win awards at The Page is Printed celebration evening

Posted: 1st March 2023

English Literature students, Melissa Coles and Bethany Dixon from Richard Huish College, both won prizes at the Tacchi-Morris Arts Centre’s annual Creative Writing Competition, ‘The Page is Printed’.

The competition challenges entrants to use their creativity to write imaginative stories, poems, scripts, or any other genre of writing on a side of A4.

On February 25th, all entrants were invited to attend a celebration evening at the Tacchi-Morris Arts Centre where readings of the boldest submissions were made and a panel of judges announced their winners.

Melissa and Bethany were both awarded in the Under 18s category and received cash prizes.

The fantastic result comes ahead of Huish’s own annual Original Writing and Illustration Awards (OWAIA) which will take place this summer.

The OWAIA celebrate the creativity of young writers and artists and this year entrants need to create a poster or written piece of work based on the theme ‘succession’.

Pupils in Years 9-11 from local secondary schools can enter the Brunner Cup writing competition which celebrates its 28th anniversary in 2023.

Huish students can enter its sister competition, the Ross Paterson Award, sponsored by Get Home Safe.

Meanwhile, artists, designers and photographers can get involved through the Lucas Cups.

These competitions are free to enter, and submissions are welcome until Friday 19th May 2023. Following the deadline entrants will be invited to a special ceremony where the winners will be announced.
