Strathallan student lands spot on top Scottish skateboard team

Strathallan School student Max Erasmus has landed a spot on one of Scotland’s top skate teams after impressing the owners of Route One with big tricks in the capital.

Max, who has been skating for 11 years, said the support from Route One was a dream come true.

“It makes me want to skate harder and keep going,” said Max. “Skateboarding is pretty misunderstood, people think its antisocial but actually it’s about family. Route One is a big family of skateboarders who support each other and push each other to do better. I’ve done some tricks recently that I wouldn’t have thought possible a few years ago.”

Looking ahead, Max said his sponsorship with Route One gives him high hopes for the future.

“Skateboarding is a legitimate Olympic sport. I want to go pro and who knows what I can do next with support like this.”

Ross Salitura, Manager of Edinburgh Route One, said, “I was excited to bring Max onto the Skate Team as he has an undeniable passion for Skateboarding and a talent that deserves recognition.”

“Since joining the Team, Max has continued to progress through his hard work and dedication. He has represented the Shop in Scottish skate competitions, placing and winning prizes and continues to create high quality skate videos and content for Route One. He is a credit to our team and continues to spread a positive light on skateboarding across the Scottish skate scene. I look forward to seeing just how far Max can take his skateboarding.”

When he’s not cruising the streets of Edinburgh, Max can often be found on the rugby field training for the sport he has flourished at in school. He recently played hooker at Murrayfield for the U16 Strathallan squad in the Scottish Schools Cup final late last year.
