Eleven of Richard Huish College’s highest achievers could be set for the elite universities of Oxford or Cambridge (subject to grades) to study a wide range of subjects. Five have offers from Cambridge and six have offers from Oxford.

The students that have their sights set on Cambridge include; Olivia Snow (ex-The Taunton Academy) who has an offer to study History of Art at Gonville and Caius College, Lex Lilley (ex-Cullompton College) who has an offer for Law at Clare College, Evelyn Maynard (ex-The Castle School) who plans to study Mathematics at Emmanuel College, Freya Ellis (ex-Holyrood Academy) who hopes to study Modern and Medieval Languages at Girton College, and Theo Smy (2022 leaver) who has been offered a degree in Engineering at Magdalene College.

Receiving offers from Oxford are; Louis Welch (ex-Kingsmead School) who has been awarded a place to do Economics and Management at Trinity College, Amber Lintern (ex-West Somerset College) who aims to study French at St Catherine’s College, Alana Cottey (ex-Heathfield Community School) who has an offer to read History at University College, Sonny Wilson (ex-The Castle School) who plans to study Law at Somerville College, Kelly Yu who has been awarded a place to study Classics II and English, and Izzy Bailey (ex-Bishop Fox’s School) who plans to study Psychology (Experimental) at St Hugh’s College.

Richard Jones, Progression and Learning Centre Manager at Huish shared; “Navigating an Oxbridge application is always challenging because the competition for places is fierce.  What’s particularly pleasing about this year’s Oxbridge success is not only the number of places offered to Huish students but also the range of subjects represented.

He added; “At Huish, we identify students considering Oxbridge in Year 1 and provide wider academic enrichment to develop critical thinking skills”.

In the coming weeks, Huish will be hosting an Oxbridge talk for current first-year students wishing to discover more about these elite universities and the competitive application process which will include input from a Huish alumni studying at Oxford”.
