Dauntsey’s pupils take to the stage

Posted: 3rd January 2023

Dauntsey’s annual December musical lived up to all expectations with a lively and engaging performance of Guys and Dolls.

The many months of hard work and preparation came together at the end of term when the cast and crew of Guys and Dolls performed a magnificent four-night run of the hit musical to a packed theatre.

The cast, made up of Fifth and Sixth Form pupils, had been preparing and rehearsing since auditions took place at the end of last Summer Term, and the crew had spent many months focusing on bringing the musical to life through the set.

The musical was a resounding success, with audience members of all ages enjoying the performance. One audience member, who had seen the musical on the West End many years ago, commented that the Dauntsey’s version easily rivalled what she had seen in London, high praise indeed.

Chris Walker, Director of Drama, said,

“The dedication and commitment shown by all those involved in the musical was fantastic – when watching the final performances, it is easy to forget that these are pupils who will have been sitting in lessons that morning and even playing out on a sports pitch that very afternoon. It is an enormous ask to be involved in a school production, and all the cast, crew and musicians delivered brilliantly on their commitment.

“Being involved in a school production is a fantastic experience for pupils – they learn a huge amount about themselves in a short period of time, challenging and stretching themselves, whilst also developing new and often unexpected friendships. It is an experience I know that none of them will forget.”

A ‘behind the scenes’ look at the making of Guys and Dolls has been produced, detailing the experiences of the cast and crew. This is now up on the Dauntsey’s website and can be found here.

Attention is now moving on to the summer musical, School of Rock, which will be performed by the First-Fourth Form and promises to be just as entertaining.
