Royal Hospital School (RHS) in Holbrook, Ipswich, is celebrating after its pupil, James Hawthorn (18), secured a place to study Cancer Sciences at the University of Nottingham, after achieving excellent A-Level results in Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics.
James joined RHS in Year 7 as an Academic Scholar and has balanced his studies with sporting commitments for the 1st XV rugby squad, alongside being a school prefect in his final year. James will now join the scientific battle against cancer and aims to continue his sporting pursuits alongside his academic commitments at university.Â

The Cancer Sciences course stood out to James, compared to the other biomedical courses because it is a chance to do some incredible research and contribute to saving lives in the battle against cancer.Â

James said: “I have always believed in trying everything and I’m grateful to RHS for affording me the opportunity to experience sailing, rugby, cricket, shooting, CCF and so much more. Coupled with a secure academic foundation, I feel ready to embark on a new chapter in the pursuit of my medical aspirations.”Â
