Millfield students have scored highly in the spring American University application SAT exams.

The exams, which were held at Millfield in March, test students on their aptitude in reading, writing and mathematics, and are an essential component of admissions evaluation for competitive places at top universities in the United States.

60 Millfield sixth formers sat the exams alongside students from schools and colleges around the South West, making this year the largest ever Millfield cohort to take part in SAT examinations as the popularity of attending universities in the United States hits an all-time high.

Lower Sixth student Solomon Williams attained exceptional results, scoring 1530/1600 overall, the second highest score in Millfield’s SAT history, which included an incredible 800/800 in the mathematics paper. Solomon achieved his score – which placed him in the top 99% National Representative Percentile (NPR) – while representing England at swimming on the same weekend.

Lower Sixth students James Sclater (1440/1600), Francesca Davis (1310/1600) and Chichi Okafor (1310/1600) scored highly, placing in the top 90% NPR. Overall, a third of Millfield students who took part scored over 1200/1600 across the examinations and placed in the top 85% NPR.

Francesca said, “I was really impressed with the support that the school gave me in order to prepare for the SATs. Having classes timetabled into my schedule meant that I didn’t have to plan my study sessions and was also able to get support from specialist teachers in the different subject areas.”

Millfield provides specialist guidance for applications to American universities and employs a Tutor in Charge, a SAT advisor and a Virginia Fellow, who ensure candidates get the best possible advice and are guided throughout the process. Millfield is one of a few SAT centres in the UK which means that students do not need to leave the campus to take their SAT entry exam.
