Dauntsey’s Paddlers Complete the DW – the ‘Canoeists’ Everest’

Posted: 26th April 2022

A total of three former pupils and eighteen Lower Sixth students from Dauntsey’s completed the Devizes to Westminster (‘DW’) canoe race over the Easter weekend.

The 108 mile course was tackled across three days with the help of more than 50 family members and friends who made up the paddlers’ support crews.

The paddlers set off just after 0800 on Good Friday to cover the 34 miles from Devizes to Newbury, then paddled 36 miles on Saturday from Newbury to Marlow and finished on Easter Sunday, paddling the final 38 miles from Marlow to Teddington.

Sam Moore, Head of Adventure Education, Dauntsey’s, said;

“It was a phenomenal achievement and we were thrilled to cheer them all in at the finish on Sunday. It was an amazing weekend and we are so proud of our team. Their resilience and camaraderie was incredible. The icing on the cake is the students raising more than £3,200 through sponsorship for our chosen charity, MIND.

“There have been a few aches and pains at the start of this term but it’s safe to say that everyone involved in the 2022 DW made some lasting memories. It really is adventure education at its finest!”
