A teenager from Truro is celebrating after placing 8th in the World Fencing Championships in Dubai this weekend.
The High School Truro’s Melissa Jane was representing Team GB in the Individual Women’s Cadet Sabre World Championships, finishing in the highest position for any British athlete for many years. Even current GB Senior Number 1, Caiti Maxwell, only achieved 18th in the Cadet Women’s Sabre in Bourges in 2016. Melissa fenced brilliantly, conceding only to the defending world champion.
This is a simply phenomenal achievement, especially for a 16-year-old also working towards her GCSEs – Well done to Melissa and her coach Balázs Kuruczwe.
