Millfield Prep footballer Maverick Murphy has signed a contract with Exeter City FC. He will represent the EFL League Two club’s U13 team.
Maverick, a Year 8 pupil from Buckinghamshire, first started playing grassroots football at the age of eight and quickly developed a passion for the sport, going on to play for several local teams.
After joining Millfield Prep in Year 7, Maverick began training with youth football academy NextGen, where his performances attracted the attention of Exeter City. He was subsequently offered an eight-week trial with the club, which began in March, before signing over the summer.
Speaking about the opportunity, Maverick said: “I’m incredibly happy and proud to have been given this opportunity with Exeter FC and can’t wait to keep developing my football with them.”
Maverick will now train with Exeter City three times a week, alongside playing matches on Sundays, continuing to develop his football whilst being supported with his studies at Millfield Prep.
Rhys Mansell, Head of Football at Millfield Prep commented, “We are delighted that Maverick has signed with Exeter academy over the summer. He has outstanding qualities, both as a player and as a young person. I strongly look forward to contributing to Maverick’s continued development over the coming season through our strong football provision here at Millfield Prep School.”
