Millfield Prep School is excited to introduce the Pre-Senior Baccalaureate (PSB) to its academic offering for pupils in Year 7 and Year 8.
The PSB is a skills-based approach to learning that compliments Millfield’s existing academic curriculum. Pupils will develop six core skills to build their individual strengths and confidence as independent learners, ready for senior school and beyond. Skills development focuses on Independence, Communication, Collaboration, Thinking and Learning, and Reviewing and Improving.
A highlight of the programme is the Pre-Senior Project Qualification (PSPQ) undertaken in Year 8 where pupils choose a project based on their own interests and work with a staff mentor to develop their ideas, explore new methods of learning and share their work through a written project, exhibition and presentation. It is likened to a mini Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) and the Project Qualification Baccalaureate (PQB) that Millfield Senior School students can undertake and is highly desirable in university applications.
The programme recognises that pupils have different strengths and ways of learning and that by broadening the ways in which achievement can be demonstrated, all pupils will celebrate success in and beyond the classroom.
The PSB sits alongside the already established aspirational Brilliance Curriculum that Millfield developed in recent years, forming cross-curricular links between subjects and topics from Year 7 to Year 13, to aid greater understanding.
