Celebrating Individual Excellence: Milton Abbey Students Shine in Sport and Beyond
At Milton Abbey School, being a small by choice school means every student is known, noticed and celebrated as an individual. We are incredibly proud to recognise the recent achievements of several pupils whose dedication, talent and ambition continue to shine both within and beyond the school community.
Lower Sixth students Rory S and Seth B have been selected for the Dorset and Wiltshire U17 rugby training squad, a fantastic accomplishment and testament to their hard work and commitment to the sport. They will now go on to compete in fixtures against Devon, Berkshire and Cornwall, gaining valuable experience and the opportunity to progress into next yearβs U18 programme and beyond. We congratulate both students on this exciting achievement and look forward to following their continued success on the rugby field.
We also celebrate Charlie S in Fifth Form for an outstanding performance in the National League Junior Speedway Championship. Competing for the Middlesbrough Tigers at the Ecco Arena, Charlie helped secure a thrilling 45β44 victory over the Oxford Chargers. Charlie was the teamβs top scorer, earning an impressive 12+1 points and playing a pivotal role in the win. With the Tigers now sitting at the top of the league table, this is a remarkable achievement for both Charlie and the team.
HugeΒ congratulationsΒ also go to Middle Sixth students Euan J and Theo S for their exceptional footballing achievements this season. Euan and Portland United made history by winning the Wessex Premier play-off final, securing promotion to Step 4 and the Southern League for the first time following a dramatic penalty shootout victory. Theo and Blandford United were crowned Dorset Premier League Champions, sealing the title with a thrilling 3β2 win and earning promotion to the Wessex Premier League Division One next season.
Euan and Theo have progressed through the scholarship system at Milton Abbey, benefiting significantly both academically and in their football development. Milton Abbey School offers outstanding facilities and a wide range of opportunities, supported by an elite training programme tailored to the individual needs of each player. Milton Abbey also maintains a strong partnership with Champion Sports Group, who provide highly qualified, FA-accredited coaches. This collaboration further enhances the high-performance environment, enabling players to develop, improve, and fulfil their potential.
Another student making an impressive impact is Third Form pupil Finley F, who joined Milton Abbey at the start of term and has already demonstrated exceptional passion and dedication to tennis. Having first picked up a racket at the age of five, tennis has long been central to Finleyβs life. By eight, he was competing in LTA tournaments, and at 11 he achieved his first county selection, an exciting milestone in his sporting journey. This year, Finley is also competing in the Play Your Way to Wimbledon tournament, an Under-14 competition run in partnership with Vodafone. The competition begins at local level, with winners progressing through county finals before county champions are invited to Wimbledon in August to compete on the prestigious grass practice courts. For Finley, whose dream has always been to play at Wimbledon, this represents a truly special opportunity. Having already progressed through the first stage, he will compete in the county finals at the end of June.
Finleyβs family shared their appreciation for the opportunities available at Milton Abbey:
βMilton Abbey has given him the opportunity to play more tennis than heβs ever dreamed of and heβs loving being able to pick up his racket and play so often. Heβs loving practising on the grass courts and he loves that there is always someone whoβs keen to hit with him, no matter their level. We truly believe that with the amount of practice heβs getting his tennis will just go from strength to strength.β
These achievements reflect the breadth of talent, determination and enthusiasm found throughout our school community. At Milton Abbey, we are proud that our approach allows every student the opportunity to pursue their passions, develop their talents and be recognised for their successes. Whether in sport, academics, the arts or wider personal endeavours, every achievement matters, and every student is encouraged to thrive.
