Old Blundellian Demelza Short Makes Senior Red Roses Debut and Signs New Bristol Bears Contract

Posted: 1st May 2026

Blundell’s School is celebrating the outstanding success of former pupil and former Head Girl Demelza Short, who has earned her first senior cap for the England Rugby and signed a new contract with Bristol Bears Women.

At just 19 years old, Demelza made her England debut in the Women’s Six Nations against Scotland at Murrayfield, becoming the latest Old Blundellian to achieve international honours.

Her debut follows a rapid rise through the ranks, from England U18 representation while still at school to establishing herself in Premiership Women’s Rugby with Bristol Bears, who recently rewarded her performances with a new professional contract.

Demelza left Blundell’s in 2025 as Head Girl, having made a lasting impact both in the classroom and on the sports field.

Director of Rugby, Mr Tony Yapp said:

“Demelza’s achievements reflect not only her exceptional talent and work ethic, but also the values she demonstrated throughout her time at Blundell’s. We are immensely proud of all she has accomplished.”
