Kimbolton School teams shine at STEM Racing Regional Finals

Posted: 10th February 2026

Two Kimbolton School teams delivered outstanding performances at the recent STEM Racing Global Regional Finals, showcasing professionalism, creativity and resilience throughout an intense day of competition, with one team securing pole position in the ‘Best Pit Display’ category.

Competing against strong regional opponents, both teams demonstrated exceptional technical skill, teamwork and ambition – a reflection of Kimbolton’s commitment to hands-on STEM education.

Upper Sixth team ‘Helix Racing’ competed against 33 teams and achieved:

  • Winner – Best Pit Display
  • Runners-up – Best Brand, Marketing and Sponsorship.

Lower Sixth team ‘AeroNova’, competing in the Development Class, placed third out of 17 teams and are now in contention for a wildcard entry to the National Finals.

Will Chuter, Headteacher at Kimbolton School, said: “We’re incredibly proud of both of our teams for their dedication, teamwork and ambition. Their success reflects not only their technical ability, but the creativity and determination they showed throughout the competition. Experiences like this bring STEM learning to life, and it is inspiring to see our students representing Kimbolton with such professionalism and enthusiasm.”

The STEM Racing UK regional finals, which took place at the Magna Science Adventure Centre in Rotherham, challenges students to build their own version of an F1 team. Working in groups of 3-6, they design, develop and race their miniature cars while managing every aspect of their project. Regional events lead to national finals, where the very best teams earn the chance to represent their country on the global STEM stage at the Aramco STEM Racing World Finals, which last year took place in Singapore.

To inspire younger pupils, the two Kimbolton teams will display their pit setups on campus, giving other students the opportunity to see the engineering, branding and problem-solving behind competitive STEM racing and encouraging the next generation to get involved.
