Wycombe Abbey hosted its annual Model United Nations conference, welcoming 250 delegates from 15 schools to debate global issues ranging from human rights to Security Council challenges, alongside social events including a lively Highland Ball.

Wycombe Abbey proudly hosted its annual Model United Nations (MUN) conference in January, welcoming 250 delegates from 15 schools, including an international delegation. The delegates represented 100 UN member states, tackling global challenges and working collaboratively towards peaceful solutions. The event brought together enthusiastic and well-prepared pupils who engaged in thoughtful debate across a wide range of global issues.

Throughout the conference, committees addressed pressing international topics such as The Question of Civilian Rights in Occupied Territories and The Question of Protecting Healthcare in Areas of Conflict. These discussions encouraged delegates to think critically, collaborate effectively and present informed, persuasive solutions. The consistently high quality of debate reflected the dedication, preparation and global awareness of all involved.

A particular highlight beyond the committee rooms was the lively Highland Ball, where delegates enjoyed two hours of energetic ceilidh dancing accompanied by a live band – a joyful celebration of new friendships.

This yearโ€™s conference also featured WYCOMAC, a simulation of the Arctic Council, which offered participants a unique forum to explore geopolitical and environmental challenges in the far north. In addition, the event benefited greatly from the expertise of MUNiverse, whose support enhanced the experience for both new and seasoned delegates.

The conference forms part of Wycombe Abbeyโ€™s long-established and thriving Model United Nations society, one of more than 50 clubs and societies available to pupils. MUN at Wycombe Abbey has run successfully for several years and is supported by a dedicated member of staff, while also being strongly pupil-led, with senior pupils and leavers playing an active role in organisation and leadership. As with many of the Schoolโ€™s academic societies, it complements classroom learning by developing confidence, diplomacy, public speaking and global understanding.

Overall, the conference was a resounding success, combining rigorous debate, cultural exchange and memorable moments, and showcasing the very best of pupil leadership and international engagement at Wycombe Abbey.
