Richard Huish College Sports Careers Event Inspires Students

Posted: 4th February 2026

Huish Sport, Exercise and Coaching students were inspired by sports industry professionals (most of which were Huish alumni) at a career-focused event this week.

The event kicked off with a group talk from Rhys Beer on โ€˜The Business of Sportโ€™. As a former Huish student, Rhys gave students a valuable opportunity to hear from someone who had once been in their position.

Students were then split into groups to attend different employer-led sessions. These engaging and informative workshops offered real insights into the many sports-based career opportunities available after college. There was also the chance to have a bit of fun, with highlights including archery practice and a โ€˜hop testโ€™!

Thank you to the following participants for taking the time out of their busy schedules to share their industry insights:

  • Rhys Beer, Next Wave Sports and Media / England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB)
  • Steph Moreland, Somerset Activity and Sports Partnership (SASP)
  • Simon Ingram, Physiotherapist, Somerset NHS Foundation Trust / Getting It Right the First Time (GIRFT)
  • Toni Smyth, Somerset Cricket Foundation
  • Jack Lyons, Cardiff Metropolitan University
  • Ellie Tickner, Premier Education
