BSA launches new Centre for Boarding Leadership

Posted: 27th January 2026

The BSA is delighted to announce the launch of its Centre for Boarding Leadership (CBL), introduced in the BSA’s 60th year as part of a major commitment to support leadership development across the boarding sector.

The CBL will continue to deliver BSA’s world-leading accredited training, such as the BSA Diploma in Leadership and the BSA Certificate in Headship, as well as new face-to-face initiatives, such as a flagship Lessons in Leadership series.

The Lessons in Leadership programme is designed to strengthen and inspire leadership across the boarding community, featuring lectures from highly distinguished leaders from a range of fields, including individuals connected with boarding schools. Events will be hosted at partner BSA member schools across the UK, with typical sessions aimed at small groups to support meaningful discussion and engagement.

The programme will kick off with an evening lecture on ‘Leadership through uncertainty’ at Rugby School on May 22, 2026, with General (Retired) Sir Tim Radford KCB DSO OBE. Sir Tim served for 40 years in the British Army, commanding at every rank up to 4-star, including 10 years in UK Special Forces. He will share reflections on leadership, drawing on his experience in high-pressure environments. The event will be hosted by Robin Fletcher MTIOB, Chief Executive of BSA Group, and can be booked here.

David Walker FTIOB, Director of the BSA, said:

“I’m delighted to support the launch of the Centre for Boarding Leadership. Boarding continues to thrive in the face of many headwinds, and this is down to brilliant individual practitioners and committed, inspired leadership. The BSA aims to support the development of our current leaders and bringing on a generation of future leaders through this initiative.”
