TALENTED musicians showcased their skills at a winter extravaganza to remember.

Pupils from Barnard Castle School played and sang before a packed audience of friends and family.

A chamber choir shared the stage with two rock bands, a jazz collective, junior and senior orchestras, the chapel choir and a soul band.

A varied programme ranged from a soulful rendition of Eva Cassidy’s version of Autumn Leaves, to Ed Sheeran’s Perfect, James Bay’s Hold Back The River, the theme of Pirates of the Caribbean and Hold the Line by Toto.

Fans of classical music enjoyed Jazz Waltz No2 by Shostakovich, Mozart’s Ave Verum Corpus, Ubi Caritas by Ola Gjeilo, as well as Christmas songs Ding Dong Merrily on High and Away in a Manger.

The Soul Band performed Happy, Feeling Good, Runaway Baby, Ain’t No Mountain High Enough and I Want You Back.

Director of music George Ford said: “We were really excited to share all the music the children have been working on this term. For many it was the first time they’d had the opportunity to perform solos in front of an audience and they all did incredibly well.”
