Woldingham School has been awarded the Supporting Young Leaders Award by The Institute of Leadership, recognising the school’s exceptional commitment to nurturing leadership skills in young people across all year groups.
The Institute of Leadership, a national organisation dedicated to advancing leadership capability in the UK and internationally, praised Woldingham’s whole-school approach to developing confident, compassionate and capable young leaders.
The school’s focus on personal growth, one of the five Sacred Heart Goals that underpin a Woldingham education, is at the heart of this. Woldingham’s dedicated personal growth staff team collaborates closely with staff across academic and pastoral areas to ensure that every student experiences individual development, helping them recognise their strengths, grow in confidence and lead with purpose.
Through programmes such as the Woldingham Leadership Award, a bespoke Sixth Form leadership programme accredited by the Institute of Leadership, Graydin coaching training and Big Sisters mentoring scheme, students are encouraged to consider what leadership truly means — not simply holding a position of responsibility, but demonstrating integrity, supporting others and leading with purpose and self-awareness. Students also benefit from talks by visiting speakers from diverse fields and other initiatives such as the school’s Thinking Big programme of lunchtime talks by students and staff, which encourages intellectual curiosity and confident, respectful debate.
The Supporting Young Leaders Award affirms Woldingham’s dedication to preparing young women for lives of service, purpose and responsible leadership.
Sue Baillie, Head said: “I am proud that Woldingham’s investment in our integrated leadership programmes has been recognised by this prestigious award. The world needs more female leaders and, thanks to this investment, Woldingham School is a place where future leaders are made”.
