Milton Abbey School is proud to announce that its Lower Sixth Film and TV students have won third place in the prestigious 2025 Childnet Film Competition, with their film βTyranno-Scam-Us-Rexβ. The winners were revealed at an exciting awards ceremony hosted at Disneyβs UK Headquarters in Hammersmith, London, on 1st July 2025.
The competition, now in its 16th year, challenges young people across the UK to create short films addressing important issues in online safety. This yearβs theme β βItβs not your faultβ β encouraged entrants to explore how young people can support one another against online scams.
Although the award winning filmmakers from Milton Abbey were away on an expedition to Cornwall at the time of the event, their work was celebrated in style. Representing them at the ceremony were Middle Sixth Film and TV students Haya A and Lily H, who collected the trophy on their behalf from David Austin, Chief Executive of the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC).
Milton Abbeyβs continued success in this national competition has not gone unnoticed. Dame Rachel de Souza, Childrenβs Commissioner for England, personally praised the schoolβs work, telling Haya, Lily, and teacher Mr Ratcliffe thatΒ βMilton Abbey films are always the highest quality.β
The achievement builds on the schoolβs previous victory in the 2023 edition of the competition, affirming its growing reputation for excellence in creative digital storytelling and online safety education.
Head of Film and TV, Mr Ratcliffe, commented:

The recognition from industry professionals, including the BBFC, Disney, and the BBC, is a testament to their creativity, technical skill, and ability to communicate a vital message to their peers.”
The annual Childnet Film Competition is judged by a panel of high-profile industry experts from BAFTA, the BBC, Disney, the Motion Picture Association, and the BBFC. It remains one of the UK’s leading platforms for showcasing young voices on digital issues.

These films are not only a celebration of youth creativity but also serve as educational resources for classrooms and young audiences across the country.
