Fourteen Huish students have received offers to study highly competitive university courses; five students have secured places at Oxford or Cambridge, five have received offers from medical schools, and four have been successful in gaining places on veterinary science courses.
Huish, a state-funded college with boarding provision, is committed to supporting all students with their varying progression pathways after college; this includes those interested in applying to competitive university courses across the UK and beyond.
Students who have secured places at the respected Oxford and Cambridge universities are former King Alfred School pupil Molly Joyce (for Chemistry at Oxford), former Monkton Wood Academy students Lauren Hill (Earth Sciences at Worcester College, Oxford) and Leah Whitwham (History at St John’s College, Oxford), and former Castle School pupils Ella Pal (History and Politics at Merton College, Oxford) and Chloe Fry (Medicine at Cambridge’s St John’s College, in addition to offers from Exeter, Liverpool and Plymouth).
Students who have been offered places on competitive medical courses are former Monkton Wood Academy pupils Evie Taft (offers from Birmingham, and Brighton & Sussex), and Huish Class of 2024 student Tilli Davidson (offers from Birmingham and Plymouth). Also having secured offers to study at medical school are ex-Uffculme School pupil Abigail Churchward (Nottingham and Cardiff), ex-Kingsmead School student Sam Ganner (Cardiff, Edinburgh, Liverpool and Sheffield), and Huish Class of 2024 and ex-Colyton Grammar School student Mona Sathish (Plymouth).
Students who have secured places to progress onto veterinary courses are former Wellington School pupil Caleigh Vincent (offers from Bristol and Harper Adams), former Castle School pupil Finley Stewart (Surrey), former Uffculme School pupil Isla Chaplin (Harper and Keele), and ex Huish Episcopi Academy student Livvy Tozer (offers from Surrey, and Harper and Keele).
Students were supported with their university applications by Academic EnRICH, a scheme available to the whole cohort that helps to enhance knowledge, understanding and skills beyond the Level 3 curriculum.
Students looking to apply to medicine or veterinary courses were also assisted by the College’s specialist branch of Academic EnRICH; the Medical Careers Academy, which offers guidance around admissions tests, seminars from internal and external speakers, debates on medical ethics and relevant scenarios, skill-building activities, interview preparation and reading recommendations.
Richard Jones, Careers, Exams and Learning Centre Manager, commented: “We are incredibly proud of our students for securing these prestigious offers from a range of universities across the UK. Their dedication and hard work have truly paid off, and we look forward to seeing them excel in their future academic and professional endeavours.”
