The award-winning North Yorkshire independent school, Queen Ethelburga’s Collegiate, is thrilled to announce their new driver for the popular CityCar Cup Championship incorporating the Student Motorsport challenge 2025!
Emilia Vincent, an ex-Motorsport Engineering student from Wiltshire College, has joined the Queen Ethelburga’s Motorsport Student Team and will bring with her a wealth of experience in her mechanical knowledge to help enhance the students’ learning, as well as her passion to encourage more females into the sport.
Emilia is no stranger to racing, or to the CityCar Cup! At the age of 16 she hung up her ballet shoes for racing boots and began karting, having been inspired whilst watching a documentary by the female racing driver and Formula E team principal Susie Wolf. In 2021, she joined the Castle Combe Hot Hatch Series where she finished second in class and continued with the series into 2022. Emilia joined the Student Motorsport challenge in 2023 with her old university, Wiltshire College, securing a podium finish at Brands Hatch, and continued with the CityCar Cup Championship into 2024 where she finished an impressive 15th overall out of a field of 44 drivers over the season, and the only female driver!
Helen Snuggs, QE Motorsport Team Leader comments: “We are very pleased to have Emilia join QE Motorsport, we have a good mix of male and female team members so to have Emilia is just fabulous. We are looking forward to drawing on her wealth of experience in terms of being the driver and with her engineering knowledge and expertise. Exciting times ahead!”
Emilia’s delight in joining the QE Motorsport Team is clear, stating, “I am really looking forward to the journey with the students, sharing my passion and enthusiasm for the sport and to hopefully help and inspire them, especially the girls, into the world of motorsport.”
As everyone gears up for the upcoming BRSCC CityCar Cup Drivers Championship and Student Motorsport Challenge, Team QE is confident that the addition of Emilia will contribute to their continued success.
The Collegiate launched QE Motorsport in September 2022 as part of their dedication to driving forward new and exciting extra-curricular opportunities for its students. It started when a team from Student Motorsport and a team from Oxford Brookes University visited with a kit to prepare a car and coordinated a “Pit Stop Challenge” to demonstrate what is involved in building a race car. From there, a team of 28 Year 12 students worked alongside QE staff and Race Engineer, Will Snuggs from WJS Motorsport Engineering & Trackside, to transform the standard Citroen C1 into a race-ready contender.
QE are the first ever UK school to compete in the Challenge and during the Student Motorsport Challenge Awards Evening in December 2024, the team secured the Team Professionalism Award.
