Budding student photographers capture the essence of boarding in BSA Photography Competition

Posted: 28th June 2023

On Friday June 23, during annual BSA National Boarding Week celebrations, the Boarding Schools’ Association (BSA) announced the winners and runners-up of its first #iloveboarding themed photography competition.

Boarders in UK and international schools were invited to capture boarding life and what it means to them in one photograph, and the results were fantastic. Entries depicted true moments of joy, friendship and togetherness, as well as a charming insight into life living in a busy, bustling boarding house.

The competition received over 60 entries from 24 schools and welcomed submissions in two categories – junior (Year 8 and below) and senior (Year 9 and above). Competition sponsors, Gillman and Soame, judged how closely the entries followed the brief, the creativity involved, and whether the image demonstrated skill and thought process.

Congratulations to the following winners and runners-up:

  • Junior winner: Katrina M from Embley School
  • Junior runner up: Sophie T from St Andrews Prep, Eastbourne
  • Senior winner: Issy M from Godolphin School
  • Senior runner up: Siddharth J, Welham Boys’ School

These photographs, alongside many others submitted, will be published in the autumn edition of the BSA Boarding Schools’ Magazine as a celebration of boarding. The images are a testament to the wonderful enriching experiences, and memories to be made, at boarding schools and we thank the boarding community for participating.

The photography competition is part of the BSA’s newly launched BSA Active initiative, designed to celebrate all things boarding and engage boarders in a series of fun activities and competitions.
