Three teams of mathematics students from ACS International School Egham scooped first, second and third places across two categories in the UK arm of the Purple Comet Math Meet Competition.

Egham’s MS Maths team tied first place in the Middle School strand of the competition, while Quadratic Chickens and team St Bill placed second and third place respectively in the High School category.

Amanda Cutting, Head of Mathematics at ACS Egham, said: “We are so proud of our students’ maths successes at the competition. This is testament to the excellent mathematical problem-solving skills they develop through studying the International Baccalaureate. The confidence gained from placing on the leader board of the Math Meet will help students throughout the rest of the educational journey with us and continues to inspire a wider cooperative approach to the study of maths.”

The Purple Comet Math Meet saw schools from across the UK take part, including King’s College London Mathematics School, Southbank International School Westminster and Shrewsbury School.

The international mathematics competition has been running since 2003, during which students have limited time to complete up to 30 problem solving questions in teams of up to six. ACS Egham takes part in wider STEM competitions and works with the UK Mathematics Trust to enter its students into senior, intermediate, and junior competitions.
