16th November 2022: Howzat! Brentwood School has again been named one of the UK’s top 100 cricketing schools by the worldβs best-selling cricketing magazine βThe Cricketerβ – in both the Senior and Prep/Junior categories.
Brentwoodβs double inclusion in the prestigious Schools Guide 2023 came at the end of a long and exhaustive selection process which saw a huge number of schools submit entries for a coveted place in the top 100 Senior, the top 50 Prep/Junior and the top 20 all-girlsβ schools.
Les Wingrove, a Sports Coach at the Prep School, said, βI am proud to be at the forefront of developing cricket across both genders and inspiring a lifelong love of the sport, and we as a School are continuing the growth across all years.β
The prestigious list includes schools across the country, from Dulwich to Durham, and from Watford to Worksop. Each entry was judged against extensive selection criteria, including a compelling commitment to cricket in the curriculum, facilities, fixture programmes and coaching.Β
Brentwood has strong links with Essex CCC and the Schoolβs list of illustrious cricket professionals includes former Essex batsman, Brian Hardie, Ashes hero Geraint Jones, and the current incumbent, former Essex batsman Jaik Mickleburgh.
The Cricketer is the sportβs oldest magazine and has retained its position as the worldβs most respected and best-selling cricket magazine. Magazine editor, Huw Turbervill, said: βIβve read some inspirational stories working on this yearβs guide.βΒ Β
Cristian Durant, managing director of Durant Cricket, added: βWe have supported The Cricketerβs sterling coverage of schoolβs cricket, which showcases the fantastic job coaches and staff are doing for grassroots cricket, for many years. Long may it continue. Enjoy the winter, and best of luck for the 2023 season.β
