At More House School, everything we do is rooted in our core values of kindness, spirit and responsibility. These values shape our inclusive whole person, whole school approach where our teaching and learning, specialist SEND support, pastoral care, co-curricular opportunities and boarding provision work together to help every pupil thrive.
As a day and boarding school providing transformative inclusive education for pupils with literacy and language-related SEND, we know that helping children feel safe, valued and understood is key for academic and personal growth. One shining example of this ethos is our annual Sponsored Walk. A much-anticipated event in the school calendar which brings together our community of pupils, staff and families in a celebration of social responsibility, teamwork and kindness.
Pupil voice is central to the event. Each year, students come together to nominate and vote for the charities they wish to support through sponsorship, ensuring their fundraising reflects causes they genuinely care about. This process strengthens their sense of agency and connection to the wider world. On the day, pupils in Years 4-11 walk up to 16.5 kilometres alongside staff through scenic routes around the local area. This year many of our school community were spotted in colourful and creative safari-themed costumes (which did not exactly blend in with the surroundings!).
This tradition is more than just a fun and active co-curricular opportunity, is it a powerful example of our values in action. It reinforces our commitment to education that empowers pupils to grow not just academically, but as confident, compassionate individuals.
Last year’s record-breaking Sponsored Walk raised over £9,000 for the charities chosen by our students. We’re incredibly proud of their efforts again this year and look forward to celebrating the impact of the 2025 Sponsored Walk!
