Haven Hall launches ACEs awareness courses for schools to enhance safeguarding and student outcomes #ad

Posted: 9th October 2025

Haven Hall Training is proud to announce the launch of its comprehensive Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) training programmes for schools, including boarding schools and educational institutions worldwide. These courses aim to equip educators and staff with the knowledge and practical skills needed to identify and support children affected by trauma.

Research shows that ACEs — including abuse, neglect, and household dysfunction — significantly impact children’s attendance, behaviour, and academic performance. The toxic stress associated with ACEs can make learning and classroom engagement challenging, highlighting the critical need for safeguarding awareness and trauma-informed practice in schools.

Haven Hall’s training is delivered by Dr Lydia Taiwo, an ACEs educator, specialist consultant, and psychotherapist with extensive safeguarding experience. Dr Taiwo has contributed to numerous child protection conferences and brings unique insight as a survivor of seven ACEs. This combination of professional expertise and lived experience allows participants to engage deeply with the material and understand the real-world impacts of trauma.

The courses include:

  • Introduction to Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and the Safeguarding Connection – 5 CPD hours (self-directed, non-accredited)
  • The Link Between ACEs and School Performance – 5 CPD hours (self-directed, non-accredited)

Each programme features interactive slides, downloadable handouts, case studies, and assessments, culminating in a CPD certificate that can be used as evidence of self-directed professional learning. Training can be completed online or delivered in person, with bespoke options available for individual schools.

“Haven Hall courses go beyond awareness; they empower staff to respond compassionately and effectively to children affected by ACEs,” said Dr Lydia Taiwo. “Investing in ACEs training is not just professional development — it is a commitment to creating safer, supportive learning environments where every child can thrive.”
