The Royal Hospital School (RHS) in Holbrook, Suffolk, is delighted to announce that Year 13 pupil, Mathilda Ketterer, has successfully obtained an Associate of the Royal Schools of Music (ARSM) diploma in singing.
Mathilda, who has been dedicated to her singing lessons since the age of eight, has achieved this prestigious diploma, which is the examination following Grade 8. In addition to her vocal studies, she has also honed her piano skills, allowing her to accompany her singing. This dual proficiency has been instrumental in aiding her learning of new repertoire.
After more than a year of diligent preparation, Mathilda’s final performance for the diploma featured a diverse selection of nine songs spanning various genres and performed in five different languages. This impressive showcase highlighted her exceptional talent and versatility.
As a music scholar at RHS, Mathilda has had numerous opportunities to cultivate her passion for singing. She has performed solo pieces in the chapel, participated in concerts, and attended masterclasses. Notably, she cherished the experience of playing the lead roles in the school’s recent opera productions of The Pirates of Penzance and Die Fledermaus.
Mathilda attributes her success to the unparalleled support from the RHS Music Department, led by Director of Music, Mr. Edward Allen, and Singing Teacher, Mr. Daniel Joy. She believes their guidance and encouragement have been pivotal in bringing out the best in her and her fellow pupils.
Edward (Ed) Allen, Director of Music at RHS commented on Mathilda’s success saying: “We are immensely proud of Mathilda for obtaining her ARSM diploma in singing. Her dedication to her craft and her remarkable talent have shone through in every performance. Mathilda’s success is a testament to her hard work and the supportive environment fostered within our Music Department. We are excited to see where her musical journey will take her and are confident she will continue to achieve great things in her future studies and performances.”
Looking ahead, Mathilda aspires to pursue an undergraduate degree in Philosophy, followed by a Master’s degree in Vocal Studies at a specialist conservatoire. During this time, she plans to join choirs and embrace every opportunity to further her singing career.
