Hundreds of boarders participate in BSA’s National Boarding Week 2024

Posted: 1st July 2024

Hundreds of boarders from member schools across the UK took part in National Boarding Week 2024 during the week June 17-23.

Organised by the Boarding Schools’ Association (BSA), the week was packed full of challenges and activities designed to demonstrate the joy and togetherness the boarding experience has to offer. National Boarding Week authentically showcases the positive and lasting impact boarding  can have on students’ lives.

Over 75 schools participated by sharing their celebrations across social media using the hashtags #NationalBoardingWeek and #iloveboarding.

Each day presented a new activity. Boarders got involved in a house step challenge, sustainability projects, a house quiz, enjoyed the sunshine by getting outdoors for Summer Solstice, snuggled down for a movie for film night Friday, made time for mindfulness activities and finished the week with some kind gestures to ‘thank a houseparent’ on Sunday.

As ever, challenges and activities were designed with inclusivity in mind, ensuring something for everyone, no matter their talents, skills or interests. Many other schools chose their own activities in celebration of the campaign, highlighting wonderful friendships and the special memories being made every day amongst boarders.

Commenting on this year’s campaign, Director BSA David Walker said: “National Boarding Week is a special time in the boarding calendar for schools to connect with communities, embrace the fun in boarding and recognise the every-day joy in the boarding experience.”

“This year’s activities were clearly a great success and now approaching its tenth year, it has become a brilliant tradition for many schools to get involved with. It is fantastic to see so many schools take part every year across the UK.”

BSA now looks ahead to the autumn for its next celebration, International Boarding Day on Saturday October 5.
