Sponsored: Prime Minister addresses allergy safety in schools

Posted: 14th May 2024

Last week the Prime Minister emphasised the importance of keeping pupils with allergies safe at school and reminded school governing bodies of their legal duty to make arrangements for supporting pupils with medical conditions.

The issue was raised in the House of Commons thanks to the ongoing campaigning of Helen Blythe whose five-year-old son, Benedict, died from anaphylaxis following an allergic reaction at school.

The Allergy Team supports hundreds of schools to manage food allergies and to keep pupils safer. Together with Helen Blythe and the ISBA we have developed the Schools Allergy Code, a free guide to best practice for all schools which has been circulated by the Department for Education.

Schools who want to demonstrate their commitment to the Code, can apply to join the Schools Allergy Register and if they are assessed as adhering to the Code they will receive a trust mark and be added to a published list. Signing up to the Register costs from £750 + VAT a year.

I would love to discuss how we can support your school so please email us or book a call. We are also going to be at the ISBA Conference in Wales next week so if you or one of your colleagues is attending please come and say hello at Stand 36.

With best wishes,
