Boarding school runners ‘head’ to the castle

The world-famous Windsor Castle had some unusual early morning visitors this week when 15 heads from UK boarding schools turned up in full running gear.

The energetic early risers took time out from the annual Boarding Schools’ Association (BSA) Conference for Heads at Heathrow Hilton Hotel Terminal 5 and laced up their sneakers for a five-mile ‘Head to the Castle’ run.

When they reached Windsor Castle they were then rewarded with free hotdrinks and pastries from St George’s prep boarding school next door.

BSA Director David Walker, who completed the run, said: “Although the pace was a bit quick, it was great to head out early morning and run between two such well-known landmarks, Heathrow and Windsor Castle.

“All the Heads who took part showed they are not just great school leaders but pretty keen athletes as well, and we are very grateful to St George’s for providing welcome refreshments at the end of the run.”

The BSA’s 58th annual Conference for Heads brought together more than 150 delegates from the UK, Republic of Ireland, Austria, Switzerland and New Zealand for two days focusing on excellence in boarding education. BSA is the largest boarding education association in the world with around 650 members in 40 countries.
