ACS International School Egham recently hosted the STEAM competition, Destination Imagination, welcoming 15 teams of students from all three UK-based ACS International Schools (Egham, Cobham and Hillingdon), alongside teams from Shaftesbury School and The International School of Brussels from Belgium.
Teams of students, aged 10 – 14 were tasked with developing solutions to project-based STEAM challenges. Students were required to pick from various challenges, ranging from engineering and fine arts to improvisational and service learning challenges and were appraised by a judging panel of staff, parents, older students, and Destination Imagination experts from across the UK.
Destination Imagination tests teams’ ability to problem solve and come up with unique solutions that allows their self-expression to grow, while sharing knowledge as a team and working together.
The top scoring teams have the chance to progress to the next round of the tournament at the Global Finals in May. From this round, the winning teams were:
- Technical challenge: The Jactoseals from ACS Egham
- Engineering challenge: The Space Waffles from Shaftesbury School
- Engineering challenge (elementary level): Splendiferous Crafters from ISB
- Scientific challenge: The Dosetiers from Shaftesbury School
- Improvisation challenge: Solar Survivors from Shaftesbury School
- Fine Arts challenge: Kinetic Creators from ACS Cobham
- Service challenge: Rowdy Sprouts from ISB
John Mendenhall, Science Teacher at ACS International School Egham, said: “Destination Imagination was a resounding success, thanks to the support of the ACS Egham community. We’re so happy to be able to provide children with the opportunity to supplement their education in engaging and fun ways, and we hope that next year this becomes even bigger with more local schools taking part, as well as all currently participating schools returning.”
