A pupil in Prep 5 from Leweston School won an online competition to receive a phonecall from mountain climber and motivation speaker, Kenton Cool.
Annabel H, Prep 5 entered an online competition on Instagram to win a telephone call from Kenton Cool, from the South Pole and was chosen! Kenton Cool is one of the world’s leading high-altitude climbers and also a highly engaging and inspiring motivational speaker. He has successfully climbed Mount Everest fifteen times.
Kenton posted this competition on January 11 2020, and asked for people to comment on his post why they should receive the phone call from the South Pole. Kenton was travelling to the South Pole as part of his Antarctica as it has always been on his bucket list to climb mountains.
Annabel’s winning comment on Instagram was:
“You inspired me to take up climbing, which is so much fun and last year I abseiled down a 50m waterfall in Scotland. I am now doing my school project on you and to receive a phone call from Antarctica would be amazing!”
Unfortunately, due to Covid-19 the expedition was postponed, however, Kenton still agreed to do a video call and speak with Annabel and the rest of Prep 5.
He had some fantastic facts and stories to share and the pupils watched a video of him climbing and his journey and even had the opportunity to ask some questions at the end of the session.
