Keswick School Hedgehog Hospital

Posted: 6th December 2023

Keswick boarders have had a busy couple of weeks looking after four hoglets which have been found in the school grounds.  One of hedgehogs has been taken to a rescue centre but the remaining three; Sonic, Knuckles and Shadow remain in the care of the staff and students.

Many of our international boarders have never encountered these cute creatures before and are fascinated by the hoglets and have taken an interest in finding out how best to care for them.

Supported by house staff, each hedgehog has been given an individual shelter with food and water to live in and are being kept warm in the boiler room and matrons flat.  It is essential they gain some weight before hibernation to survive the winter.  The prefects are designing a hedgehog house which will be placed in our wild meadow area for the Spring time to encourage them to stay close to us.

Our wild meadow was created last Summer and has attracted many insects and animals, to the delight of the boarders.  It is an area of calm and serenity and is enjoyed by many.
