Wymondham College has achieved the exceptional accolade of ‘Outstanding’ in a double Ofsted inspection.
Founded in 1951, Wymondham College is the largest State Boarding School in the country and have retained their Outstanding Ofsted judgements in both education and boarding. The aligned Ofsted team, made of nine inspectors, spent three days at the College in October, rigorously reviewing the quality of education, safeguarding practices, the personal development of all students and the experiences of boarders.
Their final report opened with the observation that, “At Wymondham College there is a palpable sense of aspiration… Consequently, pupils achieve exceptionally well.” Inspectors observed numerous lessons, conducted countless interviews with students and staff members and spent considerable time in the boarding houses. Inspectors noted in summation that, “the school is a vibrant, exciting place to live and study; a place where children absolutely flourish.”
Impressively, Wymondham College, the founding school of the Sapientia Education Trust, achieved Outstanding in all 9 categories, believed to be the only state boarding and day school in England to have achieved such accolades under the new Ofsted framework.
Principal Zoe Fisher said, “I am delighted that the inspection recognised the hard work, care and commitment our staff give to providing a world-class experience for our students every day. As a state boarding school we are home to nearly 600 children from as close as Wymondham to as far as the Caribbean and a day school for 800 local children, and their contribution to our community was reflected: ‘Boarders and day pupils alike live and breathe the school’s values of pride, passion and positivity. They show considerable enthusiasm for learning. Respect and kindness are embedded in the safe culture. In all year groups, pupils are courteous and confident,”
