Christ’s Hospital Student Speaks at Lord Mayor’s Launch

Posted: 23rd November 2023

On 16 November, Manuela Musanga, a senior student and prefect from Christ’s Hospital school had the great honour of addressing the new Lord Mayor of the City of London, Michael Mainelli, at Mansion House, for the launch of his mayoral year.

Manuela started by speaking about Christ’s Hospital, the UK’s leading charitable school, largest bursary charity and one of Mr Mainelli’s personal chosen causes. She moved on to talk about the new scholarship programme being introduced in partnership with the Lord Mayor of London, to mark the 350th anniversary of the Royal Mathematical School at Christ’s Hospital.

‘My morning at Mansion House was truly a surreal experience,’ said Manuela. ‘It was extraordinary to meet such influential people in their respective fields and to speak with them and to them. I felt so welcomed and although I was the only young person, it was great to be able to talk about something that I feel passionate about.’

The Lord Mayor’s RMS Scholarship programme will enable young people from less advantaged backgrounds to have a transformative educational experience at Christ’s Hospital and equip them to navigate an increasingly complex world.

The RMS was established at Christ’s Hospital by King Charles II in 1673 to prepare students with the skills to navigate the world. 350 years later, the spirit of the RMS continues to inspire students for future success. While the 350th anniversary marks the notable history of the RMS, it also provides an opportunity to create a lasting legacy.

The scholarships will run in perpetuity, providing a fitting legacy for the RMS and a way for sponsors to have a lasting impact on social mobility for generations to come.
