Thunder and lightening couldn’t dampen spirits at Hanford on Monday 2 October when the school came together to celebrate one of Hanford’s founders, with the much-anticipated annual Mrs C’s Day celebrations.
Mrs Enid Canning and her husband, the Reverend Clifford Canning, founded Hanford in 1947 with the firm belief that children are best prepared for their adult lives if they are given the freedom to develop in their own time in as diverting and carefree an environment as possible. Their legacy certainly lives on and is celebrated on Mrs C’s Day when everyone dresses up in fancy dress, many girls and staff making their own costumes, for an afternoon parade on the lawn. As ever staff joined in the fun, with a matador, Robert the Bruce, Joan Lennon and Victorian washerwomen making an appearance. Hilary Phillips, the new Head at Hanford, was resplendent as a frog. The parade was followed by some memorable skits performed by each year group and a delicious tea.
Hilary Phillips said of the day, “Hanford was out in typical style on Monday; the individuality and creativeness of the girls really shone through. It was lovely to see them having so much fun together whilst celebrating Hanford’s history and traditions.”
