Embley students sail to victory at the Round the Island Race

Posted: 19th July 2023

Embley students were unbeaten and remain the fastest team of young sailors at the internationally renowned Round the Island Race. Out of 1,100 boats taking part, which included Fastnet and Admirals cup crews, ‘Embley’ (Stewart 37) raced across the finish line claiming the sub-class, its major class 7 and the ISC overall.

Conditions were challenging with strong winds and rough seas leading to 178 boats retiring but ‘Embley’ tactfully navigated through the chop to claim:

  • Winner – ISC Rating System (ISCRS) (Overall) for a 2nd consecutive year, taking home the Silver Gilt Roman Bowl and Salver (6 mins ahead of 2nd placed boat)
  • Winner – ISCRS Group 7 and awarded the Spread Eagle Trophy for a second year (40 mins ahead of 2nd placed boat)
  • Winner – ISCRS Division 7A for a second year (1 hour ahead of the 2nd placed boat)
  • Winner – B&G RTI Young Sailor Trophy (ISCRS) for the 4th consecutive year (1 hour and 05 mins ahead of the 2nd placed boat)

‘Crazy Horse of Embley’ (Trapper 300) came a very respectable fourth in the B&G Young Sailor Trophy (IRC) and 21st IRC Division 3C, and ‘Embley’s King George’ (modified Etchells 22) came fifth in B&G Young Sailor Trophy (IRC) and 26th IRC Division 3C.
