A world first musical collaboration between co-educational independent school Queen Ethelburga’s, Global Media and international music producers Billen Ted, has seen the release of the student-composed ‘Feels Like Home’ hit all major music streaming channels today. A cohort of the creative student team visited the Global Media offices in Leeds, as the first batch of adverts for the song were played on Capital FM.

“Feels Like Home”, a song by Team QE (produced by Billen Ted), is available for streaming on all major platforms including Spotify, Amazon, or Apple Music. Adverts are also being played throughout the day on Capital FM in Yorkshire and the North East, and the official music video is available on the Queen Ethelburga’s You Tube channel.

Students from across all four of the Collegiate’s schools: Chapter House; King’s Magna; The College; and The Faculty worked with hit-selling producers Sam Brennan and Tom Hollings a.k.a Billen Ted –  to create the incredibly catchy and potential summer dance hit and accompanying music video.

Students were involved in workshop sessions to create all elements of the song and music video, from the underlying melody all the way through the dance choreography to include in the final music video:

  • The melody originated from Fleur (Year 6), Imogen (Year 7) and Sophie (Year 9) playing the keyboard;
  • Billen Ted put the lyrics down based on notes written by the students and are sung by Eden (Year 13);
  • The instruments are played by Paul (Year 13), Mark (Year 11), Owen (Year 12) and Catherine (Year 12), including a special saxophone solo by Oliver (Year 12)
  • Backing vocals are sung by Iniabasi (Year 12), Adam (Year 11), Eden, Stacey (Year 6), Fleur, Sophie and Imogen;
  • Ruci (Year 12), Emma (Year 12) and Georgia (Year 12) choreographed the dance routine

Sam and Tom talked about why they got involved in the project: “This is the first time we’ve worked with a school, it’s just doing something a little bit different – as Producers we don’t get out of the studio much! The students we worked with are really talented, and if there are any words of wisdom we can give and share about song writing that we can pass on, it’s a job well done we think.”

Daniel Machin, Principal of Queen Ethelburga’s Collegiate shares why QE were keen to undertake this ambitious project: “At QE, we’re always looking for new, innovative, and ultimately stand-out opportunities for our students to be involved with. We have an incredible level of talent across the four schools, from the younger years in Chapter House all the way up to our Sixth Formers and I think the results, as you can hear, are amazing when we bring this together as one ‘Team QE’ community on collaborative and ambitious projects. A massive thank you to Billen Ted and Global Media for making this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity happen for our students and staff.”

The song is available across all major streaming channels including Spotify, Amazon and Apple Music.
