Pupils at a Windsor school had a starring role in Coronation celebrations this week – when they were filmed for a popular children’s news bulletin.
Children from St George’s School Windsor Castle took part in a special edition of Espresso News – an award-winning news service for primary schools. Produced in partnership with ITN Productions, Espresso News brings the world’s biggest stories to thousands of classrooms every day, via the digital learning platform Discovery Education Espresso.
A crew from Espresso News visited St George’s School Windsor Castle to film pupils in the build-up to the Coronation. The students have been finding out about the history of the event, and pupils in Reception, Year 2 and Year 4 were interviewed about their learning. The children were also filmed making crowns and taking part in Coronation activities.
Year 2 pupil Ezra said:
“I loved being filmed and showing what I have made for the Coronation. I have enjoyed learning about the Crown Jewels and that King Charles III is the oldest monarch to take the throne at 73 years old.”
Year 4 pupil Holly said:
“Today we were filmed doing activities for the Coronation. They interviewed me, Zac and Alex. They asked us about the Coronation and Daisy helped us to make crowns from newspaper. I learnt that King Charles will need to sit on King Edward’s throne which is made of wood and that the original crown was melted.”
Year 4 pupil Zac said:
“I showed Daisy how to make a crown out of newspaper. I really enjoyed using inquiry skills to make it. I learnt that the crown is made of gold and diamonds!”
Year 2 pupil Florence said:
“I really enjoyed being filmed because I enjoyed talking about my sewing for King Charles III. I have really enjoyed learning about the Coronation and doing lots of activities in the classroom. I am really looking forward to this special occasion.”
