Wellington School student distributes 500 meals to local community

Posted: 17th February 2022

Wellington School is delighted to be helping to provide meals for the needy with the splendid charity Feeding Communities.

A Year 10 student, Dulcie Harding raised over £500 from the sale of a beautiful calendar which she produced using her own photography of Exmoor. The Thomas Franks Foundation have generously more than matched the amount, taking the total to £1000.

This money has been used to create 500 meals, which have been produced at Exeter Cathedral School, (and the boarding students there helped to make them) – where catering outfit Thomas Franks provides the catering services. As a result of Dulcie’s brilliant fund raising, the team at Feeding Communities will distribute 500 meals to a group of organisations within the Wellington community.

These organisations identify those in need and arrange final distribution. The organisations are;

  • St John’s Church of England Primary School
  • Beech Grove Primary School
  • Wellington Baptist Church
  • Social First Aid
  • Reminiscence Learning
  • Tim Potter Family Butchers
  • Cllr Andrew Govier
  • Plus additional schools in Wellington

Delivery of the meals has been done by Head of Feeding Communities – Dean Collins and Charity Advisor Raj Singh, accompanied by Councillor Andrew Govier.

Tim Cooper – a trustee from The Thomas Franks Foundation and Headmaster Eugene du Toit were also present to support the distribution and Dulcie and her mum Caroline went out and about with the team to deliver the meals to the venues.

Wellington School is dedicated to fundraising to support the local community in many capacities and has dedicated Charity Captains who work throughout the school to raise money for charities and kick-start initiatives. Charity Captain Alyssa Lai also came along to see off the delivery of the meals.

Wellington School is extremely proud of Dulcie and her dedication to the community – it is a superb example to us all!
