The Royal Hospital School (RHS) in Holbrook, Suffolk is thrilled to announce that Hugo Mayes, a talented Year 8 pupil, has been selected to join the prestigious Anglian Eagles hockey squad. This impressive achievement reflects Hugo’s dedication and exceptional skill in hockey, developed over eight years of playing the sport.
Hugo’s journey to this accomplishment included rigorous trials where he competed against top players from various counties. His membership at Ipswich Hockey Club provided ample practice and preparation, allowing him to hone his abilities and stand out during the selection process.
Reflecting on his passion for hockey, Hugo shared: “I enjoy how fast and smooth-flowing the game is, along with the skill involved. RHS has helped me via the TPG training sessions that focus on enhancing the muscles used for the specific sport. My hockey role model is Nick Bandurak who plays as a forward for Holcombe and the England and Great Britain national teams; I like watching him play, as he is always in the right place at the right time.”
Director of Sport at Royal Hospital School, Nick Platt, commented on Hugo’s achievement saying: “This is a remarkable achievement and a testament to Hugo’s dedication, skill, and passion for the sport. We are incredibly proud of him and confident that he will continue to excel and represent our school with distinction. Hugo’s selection is not only a personal triumph but also an inspiration to his peers, demonstrating what can be achieved through hard work and commitment. We look forward to supporting him in his journey with the Anglian Eagles and celebrating his future successes.”
