for September 2024
As a traditional girls’ boarding school with a modern twist, we offer an enriching, caring and creative environment, where every girl is challenged and supported in equal measure. There is enormous enthusiasm for languages across the School and we are now looking for a Head of Spanish to join our talented team.
Spanish is thriving at Downe House, with excellent numbers both at IGCSE and A-level. The department consists of the Head of Department, a full time Spanish teacher and a British Council assistant. As well as a strong emphasis on academic success, the Spanish department offers a variety of trips and extra-curricular activities to promote all things Hispanic at Downe House.
As Head of Spanish, you will be an outstanding Teacher of Spanish with a lively and creative approach to education. You will also have drive and passion for your subject which you will share with your colleagues to ensure that the department is continuously offering the very best of secondary MFL education. You will be teaching pupils aged 13-18 and you will be leading a small team, so this is an ideal opportunity for a candidate wishing to further develop in a management role. You will also have the opportunity to be proactive in shaping and raising the profile of MFL more widely in the school by working closely with other heads of languages and the Head of Modern Languages.
You will be working in a busy and thriving Boarding School where everyone is encouraged to get fully involved with the life of the School.
We recognise that our wonderful staff are key to our success, and we offer a supportive working environment, with competitive terms and conditions and a wide range of opportunities for continuous professional development. We are also a Microsoft Showcase School where your IS skills will be developed and you will be provided with a Microsoft Surface.
