Course outline:
This seminar has been designed to support governors in their understanding and development of the role, and in formulating and shaping school strategy. The day will cover articulating strategy, tools for development, documents, planning and aligning with the Senior Team within the school as well as considering an international strategy. Consideration will be given to what the role of governors should be in strategic planning and how to develop a genuine strategy which is grounded in reality.
The seminar will be delivered by senior staff from both AGBIS and BSA Group, drawing on extensive experience in supporting members in development, strategy and the role of governors. The day will draw on case studies from both associations and delegates will leave with actionable recommendations to take back to their schools.
Training topics will include:
- What is strategy?
- Identifying and setting your school’s strategy
- International strategy
- Governance and management
- Strategic planning for governors
- External factors.
Learning outcomes:
- Recommended strategic models to apply to your school
- Advice on approaching international strategy
- Best practice recommendations for ensuring good governance and strategic partnership with SLT
- Increased awareness of the latest external factors to consider when planning school strategy.

Hi I have two albums of photos taken at what appears to be a boarding school in 1945/6. I don't know the school - there is only one photo showing any part of the exterior. The photos are excellent - the master who took them was clearly a gifted amateur. I'd like to try to trace the school and ask if they'd like the albums for their archives. I've attempted to scan the one with the exterior. It's firmly glued into the album, so apologies for the poor quality.

Congratulations to Portia Putatunda, founder of the Planet Spiti Boarding School in a remote part of the Himalayas, who is our first winner of BSA’s wonderful new Emma Pattison Award for Compassionate Leadership. BSA was delighted to present Planet Spiti Boarding School with an Honorary Membership this year.

The Emma Pattison Award for Compassionate Leadership has been introduced for 2024 in memory of former Epsom College Head, Emma Pattison, recognises an individual who consistently embodies compassion and kindness within their leadership role. The award exemplifies a person who fosters trust, contributes to team morale and makes a meaningful and positive impact on those around them.
