1 March 2023 @ 11:00 am - 1:00 pm

  • Date: March 1, 2023
  • Time: 11:00 – 13:00
  • Cost: Sacpa Full Member – £100, Non-member – £200
  • Audience: This interactive seminar is for all pastoral support workers, PSHE co-ordinators, SENCOs, safeguarding practitioners and leaders working with children and young people who have additional needs and vulnerabilities
  • Platform: Zoom (online) – Seminar

Children and young people with additional needs and vulnerabilities are at higher risk of seeing harmful content online, more likely to be exposed to conduct risks from others or engage in harmful conduct themselves, experience cyber aggression, and often a mixture of all online safeguarding risks.  Likewise, their vulnerability to `contact’ abuse by adults, and other children is significantly increased.

This seminar looks at three key safeguarding concerns through the lens of the child with additional needs and vulnerabilities.

Training topics will include:

  • Safeguarding through the lens of children with additional needs and vulnerabilities
  • The impact of additional needs, vulnerabilities, and safeguarding risk
  • Online risks – preventative education, early help and beyond
  • Child-on-child risks – preventative education, early help and beyond
  • Exploitation risks – preventative education, early help and beyond
  • The challenge of adapting preventative education to particular needs
  • Communicating parents, carers and children when safety planning is needed

Learning outcomes:

  • Delegates have an opportunity to explore what safeguarding through the lens of student voice means which a particular focus on students with additional needs and vulnerabilities
  • Delegates will refresh their knowledge and understanding of increased safeguarding risks for children with additional needs and vulnerabilities
  • Delegates will have the opportunity to explore what safety planning measures may be needed when children and young people with additional needs and vulnerabilities harm others, or are harmed by others
