Permanent – Full or Part Time considered – September start
Opportunity for inspirational Classics specialist to teach Latin and Classical Civilisation in the beautiful Prior Park College overlooking the City of Bath. Ability to teach a small amount of English is also preferred.
Our Classics Department is built on the belief that the ancient world has a place in every student’s education. We aim to make Latin and Classical Civilisation accessible, challenging, and exciting. Our teaching looks beyond exam content, drawing out cultural, historical and linguistic insights.
Our students’ study of Latin begins in Lower 3 (Year 7) and continues as an option to GCSE and A level. The Cambridge Latin Course is currently used in early years, with a move to Taylor’s ‘Latin to GCSE’ in Form 4 (Year 9). We follow the Eduqas specification at GCSE and OCR at A level, with keen and capable students at both stages.
Classical Civilisation is a popular option, which can be started in Form 4 (Year 9) and continued to GCSE and A level, following the OCR specifications.
Greek is currently offered as a co-curricular option, with the opportunity available for motivated students to study for the Intermediate Greek Certificate and/or GCSE.
There are two full-time teachers of Classics (one of whom is the Head of Department) and one part-time teacher. The Department has its own area in well-appointed classrooms with good facilities.
We offer excellent and supportive working conditions with an attractive rewards package to include free on-site parking, free lunch and use of onsite gym.
