Wymondham College Prep School is one of only two primary state boarding schools in the UK. The school was rated β€˜outstanding’ by Ofsted in June 2023, a school where, β€œPupils quickly develop a love of learning. Stimulating and engaging learning activities spark their curiosity. Staff have the highest aspiration for pupils.”

The school motto is ‘Try Hard, Be Kind, Be You’, which Ofsted recognised, β€œβ€¦is not just a motto – it is the lived experience of pupils.” The school is ambitious, providing a rigorous, knowledge-rich curriculum that follows well researched schemes of work. The school puts a great emphasis on high academic standards as well as developing the β€˜whole child’ through its broad personal development programme, Prep Life.

The school puts relationships, wellbeing and belonging at the heart of everything it does. It believes all children can thrive when nurtured and guided to love the challenge of learning, developing, and growing.

The school’s boarding provision for some Year 5 and Year 6 pupils adds a special dimension to its learning community. In September 2021 we welcomed our first cohort of boarders who were the first young people to experience boarding at the Prep School in our small mixed gender boarding house, Underwood Hall. This journey will enable the children time to foster independence, determination, and resilience. Choosing to board at the Prep School enables the individual to develop meaningful friendships and most importantly prepare them for the challenge of secondary education, particularly as a secondary school boarder.

We strive to ensure our boarders areΒ safe, happy, and getting the mostΒ from their time at the Prep – and we like to also have lots ofΒ funΒ along the way! Underwood Hall has a dedicated team of staff all of whom are focused on theΒ happiness and welfareΒ of the children and on creating a genuineΒ home-from-home. When the school day is done, we make sure that the children have time to deepenΒ relationships with friends,Β relaxΒ and haveΒ funΒ through our eveningΒ activity programmeΒ and in-house competitions.
