Shaftesbury School is a thriving state boarding school in the heart of the British countryside only two hours from London. Shaftesbury School was established in 1600 as a Grammar School and now welcomes students from the surrounding area and from all over the world to our international boarding house.
All those that visit the school are struck by the warm and friendly atmosphere which permeates throughout the school. Expectations are high and Shaftesbury School has a long history of sending students to Oxbridge and other Russell Groups universities. Pastoral care is a key focus for the staff in the school and Ofsted reported that “students behave well and feel very safe in a secure environment.” We offer a variety of GCSEs, A-Levels and BTEC courses and you will be supported every step of the way in achieving your goals. The school boasts excellent facilities and a rich programme of extra-curricular activities are available in sports, the arts, music and drama.
Boarders live at Barton Hill House – the boarding complex of Shaftesbury School which provides modern and comfortable facilities for around 105 boarding students. Boarding at Shaftesbury School is fun and exciting and boarders are often amongst the highest achieving students in the school. We provide the right atmosphere for our students to develop independence and responsibility in a supportive and nurturing environment.
