Bloxham is one of Britain’s best smaller independent schools. Situated in the beautiful conservation village of Bloxham, Bloxham School is only 3 miles from the M40 London – Birmingham motorway and yet has all of the appeal of the beautiful Oxfordshire Cotswold village. Bloxham enjoys superb facilities for academic work, sport, technology, the Arts, and boarding all found within a campus of great charm. The school offers a supportive, caring and friendly environment that allows those with talent in any area of the school’s life to contribute and to succeed. The school, which is fully co-educational, has a good mix of boarders and day pupils. Weekly boarding is available for Bloxham’s Lower School (11 and 12 year olds) and a modern and flexible approach to boarding is taken throughout. Day pupils are thoroughly integrated within the school and a bus service from many local towns and villages operates in the mornings and at 6.00p.m. Bloxham attaches great importance to the academic quality of its education. It offers a wide range of GCSE and A / AS Level courses. The majority pupils go to University, including Oxford and Cambridge and universities abroad. The school offers an impressive array of extra curricular activity across a wide spread of interests and many activities are generated by a mix of staff and pupil energy and expertise. A wide range of sport is coached. The school has its own extensive playing fields, an indoor swimming pool, a recently refurbished sports hall, two glass-backed squash courts , fitness suite and two excellent synthetic turf hockey pitches. Two thriving equestrian clubs are run and catered for off campus as are sailing and clay shooting activities. The school is also very strong in Music, the Arts and technologies areas where there has been considerable investment to keep the school’s facilities up to date. Built around a strong and supportive pastoral and tutorial system Bloxham School creates an environment where boys and girls expect to do well – and they usually do! Admissions are made at most times, where space permits, but the most popular joining points are 11 and 13 and, for the post GCSE result students into the school’s vibrant 6th Form. The school is popular and full so an early application is strongly advised. The ‘Daily Telegraph’ recently described Bloxham as “ a successful and conspicuously happy school.” Its manageable size somehow adds to its sense of community and is seen as one of its great strengths. This was picked up by the 2010 ISI Inspection Team who said “Bloxham pupils are vocal about their enjoyment of school life – in particular the strength of community values.” That same report described the pupils as “interesting, lively and grounded individuals,” and remarked on ‘outstanding pastoral care’. Bloxham School hosts Open Mornings in the Spring and Autumn but strongly encourages individual visits as this gives prospective parents a chance to get a proper feel for the school, to meet Paul Sanderson, Bloxham’s Headmaster who took up his post in September 2013 having previously been a deputy head at Gordonstoun, and to ask all those important individual questions. Bloxham School is a member of the Woodard Corporation of Schools and an HMC School .
