About The Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic, and inspirational teacher to join a very successful, dedicated and high achieving Mathematics department. Mathematics at the Royal School is a popular subject with excellent results at GCSE and A level. Top sets in each year group are entered for the UKMT challenges.

We have a wide range of abilities and pupils are taught in sets from the start of Year 7. At KS3, we use the MEP Mathematics scheme. For GCSE, top sets follow the Edexcel Higher tier course, and the others follow the Foundation tier course. We also offer the most able pupils the opportunity to sit the AQA Level 2 Further Mathematics course. In the sixth form, around half of pupils study Mathematics A level. Some pupils study Further Mathematics, which is fully timetabled as a separate A level option. The optional units offered have included Decision Mathematics, Further Mechanics and Further Pure. We follow the Edexcel specifications, and every pupil has an individual MEI Integral account. We also prepare for Oxbridge and STEP papers as needed.

About You

In particular, candidates should:

  • Have excellent subject knowledge which they can utilise to challenge all pupils
  • Be able to engage and motivate pupils of all ability levels and devise appropriate methods for those different abilities
  • Have high expectations of students in terms of learning, achievement and behaviour
  • Have an enthusiasm for developing innovative and creative approaches to learning, teaching and student participation
  • Have a clear understanding of the latest curriculum and pedagogical developments in Mathematics
  • Have a commitment to support our enrichment programme by facilitating co-curricular club

The Royal School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all who work at the School to share this commitment. Successful applicants will be subject to child protection screening appropriate to the post including an enhanced disclosure through the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) and checks with previous employers.

We may hold interviews as and when applications are received, and this job may be withdrawn without notice. Applications will only be considered if submitted online and before the closing deadline. With this in mind, we encourage you to apply as soon as possible.

United Learning

The Royal School is part of United Learning, a large, and growing, group of schools aiming to offer a life changing education to children and young people across England.

Our schools work as a team and achieve more by sharing than any single school could. Our subject specialists, our Group-wide intranet, our own curriculum and our online learning portal all help us share knowledge and resource, helping to simplify work processes and manage workloads for an improved work-life balance.

As a Group, we can reward our staff better: with good career opportunities,  benefits, and ultimately, the satisfaction of helping children to succeed. We invest in our staff wellbeing. We are working hard to become a more diverse organisation – which is key to our commitment to bringing out the best in everyone. We welcome applications from everyone committed to this ethos and would particularly welcome applications from black and minority ethnic candidates, who are currently under-represented in the Group as a whole.  We always appoint on merit. We are open to discussing flexible working options.
